We're building Tameside Radio to be the best place in the area for local news and your favourite music. We started in September 2007 and don't plan on stopping anytime soon!
This blog is our place to open the lid on what goes on behind-the-scenes; allowing us to express our thoughts, projects, press releases, news, gossip, what happened at the Christmas party, and more. Anyone from the team is welcome to make a post, so brace yourself for an ecclectic couldron of words.
Tameside Radio Contributor and TV Star Launches Mental Health Awareness Campaign
The #Here4U campaign is aimed at helping people come to terms with anxiety and depression. It was launched by TV Star and Tameside Radio contributor Dan Westwood, best known for his roles in Coronation Street, Doctors and CBeebies and as a regular on Tameside Radio's Tameside Today programme hosted by Joshua Littlehales.
Dan is speaking up to raise awareness and to help remove the stigma that is often associated with mental health problems after experiencing panic attacks whilst on tour with CBeebies.
You can hear the interview below
He said: "Anxiety is quite rife in the performing industry. I was on tour with CBeebies and when I was on stage saying my lines, it felt like I wasn’t there. I want to speak out to others to get help and not be ashamed of the stigma that comes with mental health."
"Anyone can get involved by using the hashtag '#Here4u'. All you have to do is upload a short video pledge to be '#Here4u' for your family and friends".
Dan's campaign has attracted a whole host of people to support the campaign including celebrities Georgia Taylor & Kym Marsh from Coronation Street, TV Personality Debbie McGee, "Allo Allo" actress Vicki Michelle, Dave from TV chef duo the Hairy Bikers and many more.
Dan is planning on visiting local schools across Greater Manchester and in the North East to spread the message among young people after completing the upcoming UK tour of the Wizard of Oz, which will be stopping nearby at the Middleton Arena in late October.
